Joakim’s engineering journey started when he was eight years old. Together with his father, they decided to build a soapbox car. The car had an exterior resembling a Formula 1 car, welded uprights in the suspension, and a steering wheel from an old snow racer – Perfection! What Joakim didn’t know then was that ten years later he joined a project where he designed and built a real Formula racing car. In both projects, though a decade apart, he remembered the feeling of curiosity and excitement when designing, whether it was a simple baseplate made of plywood or a lightweight monocoque in carbon fiber. When Joakim faces design challenges he always feels the excitement to solve them, the same feeling he had 25 years ago.
Through my participation in many different projects, I have accumulated a broad experience in several areas of mechanical design. I have developed casted products, products in sheet metal, extrusion, plastics, composites and much more. Whenever I’m tasked with a new area I don’t get deterred, in fact I get inspired and start acquiring the knowledge and information I need for that challenge. It is important to question the status quo and not always accept things for what they are and how they came to be. I believe that is the way to keep moving forward and push further in our technology towards a more sustainable society.
